Why Do Boats Need Regular Steam Cleaning?

One of the important responsibilities boat owners have is to make sure they take good care of their vessel, as this will mean they can enjoy heading out on the water for years to come.

Failure to maintain the boat well can speed up its deterioration, so your expensive investment will not last as long as you had hoped.

The hull of the boat needs particular attention, as being under water, it is exposed to aquatic organisms. The build-up of algae, microorganisms, plants and small creatures on the boat is called biofouling or fouling.

If left untreated, it might be able to reach metal parts of the boat, which can seriously damage the engine.

At the same time, this fouling can increase the amount of drag when travelling through water as it is carrying more weight and objects when it moves.

This drag means the vessel is unable to travel as fast as it used to, increasing fuel consumption, which ends up costing you more.

It also raises the amount of vibration in the turning gear, and increases the risk of the engine overheating from becoming blocked.

By having professional steam cleaning with a sand jetting system, this removes the bacteria, dirt, and debris that accumulates over time.

Consequently, the boat will go faster, last longer, and use less fuel to get going. It also helps the vessel maintain its value over the years, as it is kept in good condition and has not been left to decline.

To make sure the vehicle stays in good condition, it is sensible to have it cleaned every few months, or more regularly if the boat is kept in the water all year round.

Many people choose to have their hull de-fouled at the beginning of spring around early March, so their vessel is in top shape when it goes back into the water. It is also a good idea to have it cleaned again in the summer to prevent an accumulation of orga
